Belize City, Belize
A mixture of old and new, Belize offers a glance into history amid the bustling growth of a country. Formally known as British Honduras, this area offers some of the best diving and watersports in the Western Hemisphere. Explore ancient Mayan ruins, trek through a rain forest and take a once-in-a-lifetime canopy tour, or visit a sanctuary for howler monkeys.
Mayan Civilization
Northern Belize was of keen interest to the Mayan civilization. Its unique flat plain landscape offers an estimated 600 Mayan settlements scattered throughout the two northern districts of Belize, most unexcavated or unmapped.
Caribbean Wildlife
The western jungle provides habitat for some of the highest concentration of jaguar in the country. The coastal lagoons to the east are vast feeding grounds for colonies of storks, herons and egrets as well as the endangered manatee. In between these areas flows beautiful river country, full of crocodile, turtle and tarpon.
Belize's Barrier Reef
At a massive 185 miles long, Belize's barrier reef is the longest reef in the Western Hemisphere. The cayes and atolls just off the coast provide some of the best SCUBA diving, snorkeling, fishing, boating, sailing, sailboarding, and sea kayaking around.
